Personal Research Network

Research Driven.
Network Fabric.

Filtiwan Network (AS213372) is a non-profit autonomous system. We maintain an independent backbone to research next-gen programmable data planes and hybrid virtualization.

Backbone Operations

A resilient multi-vendor IP Fabric (Arista, Fortigate, Huawei) integrated with Proxmox. Focusing on EVPN/VXLAN overlays and OSPF underlays.

Engineering & Architecture

Our infrastructure is designed as a live laboratory, enforcing strict isolation between management, control, and data planes.

Development Stack

We utilize a diverse stack of languages for core routing logic, automation, and backend management.

C (Core)
PHP
Python
SCL (Pascal/PLC)

Physical Facility

We operate a small isolated server room designed for self-sufficiency and redundancy.

  • Power Redundant and Protected by UPS and Generators
  • Network Multi-Path Redundancy
  • Control Homemade PLC Automates

Fabric Protocols

We utilize a distributed topology leveraging OSPF as the underlay IGP to distribute loopback reachability.

  • Underlay OSPFv2 / OSPFv3
  • Overlay MP-BGP EVPN
  • Encap VXLAN (Type-5)

Proxmox Integration

Compute nodes participate directly in the routing domain. "Routing on the Host" eliminates Layer 2 complexities.

  • Hypervisor Proxmox VE
  • Routing Suite FRRouting (FRR)
  • Addressing /32 & /128 Announcements

Research & Development

Overcoming the limitations of the standard Linux networking stack through kernel bypass.

XDP Packet Processing

By utilizing XDP (eXpress Data Path), we are able to provide high-performance network stacks. This allows for high-performance Firewalling, DDoS Mitigation, and Security Enhancements by processing packets before the OS allocates memory (`sk_buff`).

Current experiments include low-level encryption offloading to reduce CPU overhead for secure proxy.

Custom Control Protocols

We develop proprietary Control Protocols that interface with XDP maps. This allow a better control of network flows.

Network as a Kernel

We are actively porting our network code to Unikraft unikernels. By running network functions as specialized, single-address-space machine images, we eliminate general-purpose OS overhead.

  • Goal Zero-Overhead Routing

Our Code

We believe in open research. We are preparing to release our internal XDP hooks, control plane utilities, and automation scripts to the public.
